Lip enhancement
Lips are an important part of facial beauty. For many people, fuller and more sensuous lips come high on their wish list and these can be created using material naturally found in the body. A simple and safe temporary Dermal filler such as Hydryalix injection treatment can add volume and definition, enhance small thin lips, balance our asymmetric lips or reduce the appearance of those fine, vertical lines.
Lip enhancement can be performed at many different areas of the lips :
- Vermilion border or lip outline for creating definition, width and improve lipstick bleeding lines

After the injection, the lips often become a little swollen. This means that the result immediately after the treatment may not be the final result. The swelling typically resolves spontaneously within a couple of days. To achieve the result you want it is recommended to have a touch-up treatment 2 to 4 weeks after the initial session. This will also add to the duration of the treatment effect.
The result generally last between six to 12 months. The longevity of these products is variable and each individual may obtain a different result. A plan for regular follow-up treatments to maintain the initial result can be created for you. Our treatment provides a long-lasting but not permanent result leaving you the option of refining your treatment in tune with changing taste and fashion.
Hyaluronic acid fillers
Hyaluronic acid is one of nature’s most versatile and fascinating substances. It is found throughout the body as well as in most other living organisms. It has many functions, from giving the skin elasticity and providing our skin with volume, giving it a youthful appearance.

This may be because they have a long upper lip that affects their smile (decrease tooth show) that won’t improve with a filler injection. Surgisil PermaLip™ Implant – A More Permanent Solution to Lip Augmentation

Generally speaking, lip augmentation is a performed to create fuller, plumper lips and meant to give the appearance of a more youthful face. Currently, the most common form of lip augmentation is by using an injectable dermal filler like Juvederm®, Restylane® of Hydryalix. All of these fillers contain hyaluronic acid, which is a natural occurring substance found in the body. The problem with injectable fillers is that hyaluronic acid doesn’t last very long – usually about 6 months on average — while your body breaks down the substance naturally. Therefore, this is a great procedure for patients who have been using lip fillers for years but are interested in a more permanent solution.
Surgisil Permalip implants are made of soft silicone and come in various diameter sizes and lengths. The procedure is performed under local anesthesia in about 30 minutes in our office.
How do I know which implant is the right size for me?
The Surgisil Permalip Implant™ is available in a variety of sizes to accommodate the uniqueness of your individual lip anatomy. During your consultation, Dr. Olli Teronen will measure each lip length and determine the most appropriate size for you. There are three separate diameter sizes (3mm, 4mm, and 5mm) and each implant comes in three separate lengths for a total of nine possible choices.
What if I want to have the implant removed?
Although the implant is designed to remain permanent, under personal circumstances, it may be removed should a person wish to return the lips to their original appearance.
What should I expect immediately post-operatively?
You should expect post-operative lip swelling, bruising, and tenderness with the majority of bruising and swelling resolving after the first week. Over the course of 7-10 days following the procedure, your lip swelling will resolve. Results are individualized.
Is the Surgisil Permalip procedure painful?
Dr. Teronen will perform the procedure using local anesthesia and facial nerve blocks. Acute discomfort usually resolves after the first 1-2 days with the use of prescribed pain medication, ice, and elevation.
When will I be able to see my results?
It may take several weeks to see your results. However, the operative site will be swollen for the first few days following the procedure. As the swelling subsides you will begin to see your final result. Results are individualized.
