Early pregnancy scan

An early pregnancy or viability scan will confirm if you are pregnant, calculate your estimated due date and diagnose a multiple pregnancy. The details are securely saved on our fetal database so that we are able to monitor the growth of your baby during future scans.

Second trimester morphology ultrasound

A second trimester morphology ultrasound is performed in the middle part of the pregnancy, usually between 18 and 20 weeks gestation. This ultrasound will check that your baby is growing and developing normally. This ultrasound involves scanning through your lower abdomen. A small amount of ultrasound gel is put on the skin of the lower abdomen, with the ultrasound probe then scanning through this gel. The gel helps improve contact between the probe and your skin.

There are different methods of contraception, including:

• long-acting reversible contraception, such as an intra uterine device (“coil”)
• hormonal contraception such as contraceptive pills
• barriers methods, such as condoms
• emergency contraception

The IUD or ‘coil’ is a small plastic (or plastic and copper) device, not much longer than a match, which is placed inside your womb, where it prevents you from getting pregnant. It’s often called a ‘coil’ because most of the original IUDs were coil-shaped.
