Migraine Treatment
Botulin has been found to have significant effects on headache. Tension type headache and migraine area are major problem for the patient and physicians. Regular painkillers are ineffective and can cause more headaches. Even so called precise medicines aren’t always effective. The effects are short and limited to the headache phase. Unfortunately, they fail to prevent any new seizures. There are headache suppression medicines (migraine) that have side effects such as lower pulse, neurological effects or may cause increase in your weight. Acupuncture may also help, but the effects are not sufficient or long lasting.. Muscle tension in the neck and shoulder areas may reduce with the help of massage and medicine, but the price/quality ratio here is not good.
Many physicians that have used Botox for beatification purposes have noticed that patients, whose wrinkles have been treated, don’t get headaches any more. This finding was so promising that it was examined more thoroughly and it’s now clear that Botox can also prevent and treat different sorts of headaches. Also chronic neck and shoulder pain can be put to an end with just single administer. Botox-treatment is safe and there are no side-effects. Over 90% of the patients can get good results for at least 12 weeks, as in some cases the results have been permanent. It is also noted that while repeating treatment, the results have improved significantly. According to studies done in the United States, 97 % of the patients have been satisfied with the first results before repeating the treatment.

How is the operation performed?
By visiting our physician, you can find out where the headache is originating from. All headaches cannot be treated with botulin. One of these is cyclic headache (cluster headache), structural fault or other neurological diseases as these will not respond to botulin-treatment. During this examination, we will gather information about the headache, other symptoms (migraine, nausea, vomiting), pain in the forehead, temple, neck and shoulder areas.
After the examination, we will tell you more about the injection treatment and about places where the botulin will injected. Most of the injections will be made in the forehead-, temple-, lower jaw-, and neck- or shoulder areas. There will be 10 to 30 injections in total. The injections will be virtually painless and there will be no need for anaesthesia.
Results from the treatment
You can feel results from this treatment from 3 days after the operation. You can feel the effects slowly, but generally you should feel them after 2 weeks. The results will last at least 12 weeks or it can be permanent.
